The 8th Style Method of teaching and learning Argentine Tango is a comprehensive program that covers three different styles of Tango. Classes are taught in a highly organized and focused format through a series of classes that are five weeks in length each. Students sign up for one series at a time, with no contracts or commitments. You may choose to stop after any particular series, repeat any given series for half price, or continue with the program at a later time under the condition that you meet the necessary skill requirements.
Milonguero Style:
Tango for crowded dance floors, Milonguero Style is the reigning standard for social tango today, from the halls of Buenos Aires to the packed ballrooms of the American and European festivals.
Salon Style:
The elegant and expansive tango from the 1940’s, Salon Style originates from the time when dances were held in more expensive, less populous venues. The embrace is close but flexible, opening slightly to make room for various figures while always returning to the initial “V shape” close-embrace to finish the step.
Tango Nuevo:
With movements more specific to the modern era, Tango Nuevo emphasizes fluidity, creativity, and the exploration of all of the possibilities for tango vocabulary. Tango Nuevo grew out of classic Salon Style as an adaptation to the complexities of improvising to modern tango music.
Pre-registration is required for all series as we make the greatest of efforts to ensure skill and gender balance. Learning Tango in a way that perfectly suits you as an individual is a personal matter and requires a breath of perspective that no one person or organization can offer. For this reason, we insist that students make a concerted effort to study with a teacher NOT associated with The 8th Style at least once during or after each semester.
Pre-registration is required for all classes. Please visit our class registration page.
Classes are usually held as 5 weeks series and are followed by an optional review session.
